What is GMP (grey market premium)?

Grey market premium is an unofficial, unregulated price that some traders quote for IPO shares before listing. It is not published or verified by any exchange or regulator.

3 min read · Beginner

The grey market is an informal network of dealers who quote prices for shares that have not yet listed. There is no official record of these transactions.

Because the numbers come from private sources, different websites often publish different figures for the same IPO on the same day.

We display grey market premium only with a clear warning and a timestamp, and we never present it as confirmed data.

An easy example

If the issue price is Rs 282 and the quoted premium is Rs 46, some traders are indicating the share might list near Rs 328. This indication is frequently wrong.

Important note

Grey market activity happens outside the regulated market. Figures can change within hours and cannot be independently confirmed.

Common mistake

Treating grey market premium as a guaranteed listing price or as a reason to apply.
