IPO questions, answered simply

What is an IPO?

An IPO, or initial public offering, is the first time a company sells its shares to the public. After the issue closes and shares are allotted, the company lists on the stock exchange and anyone can buy or sell those shares.

How do I apply for an IPO in India?

You apply through your broker or your bank's net banking using UPI or ASBA. You choose the number of lots, confirm the mandate, and the money stays blocked in your bank account until shares are allotted.

What is the minimum investment in an IPO?

The minimum investment is one lot, which is the lot size multiplied by the upper end of the price band. ClearIPO shows the minimum investment for every issue where the lot size and price band have been reported.

What does IPO GMP mean?

Grey market premium is an unofficial, unregulated price quoted outside the exchanges before listing. It is a sentiment indicator only, it is not a forecast, and it should not be used on its own to decide whether to apply.

How often is this IPO list updated?

The list syncs automatically twice on every trading day, once after market open and once after market close, so the status, dates and subscription figures reflect the latest reported data.
